Welcome to Summer Camp 2022!
This week we kicked off the Summer Camp 2022 season! With nearly 500 campers registered, this season is our most enrolled so far. We are so grateful that we have been able to get kids outside, especially these last two years, and are thrilled that this year is back to full capacity. With all these new and returning faces, we’re working hard to make camp this year better than ever!
Here’s a peek at what our campers have been up to:
Explorers uncovered insect hiding spots and built homes for chipmunks.
Discoverers A learned about water and mud in the garden.
Discoverers B made jewelry.
Discoverers C played by our little pond.
Discoverers D enjoyed games of Red Rover and Frisbee on the field.
Discoverers E caught frogs at Nanderwhere Pond.
NITs played a spirited game of Capture the Flag.
Summer camp with Friends of Rye Nature Center offers children opportunities not only to have fun, but also to learn, grow, and connect with the world around them. Discoverers C counselor Will Johansen, who first came to FRNC as a fourth-grade camper, recalls his childhood summers at the Rye Nature Center as a formative learning experience: “I still remember learning how to build and organize [on the grounds]…it felt like helping to create something.”
Most groups for Summer Camp 2022 are full with a waitlist, but we still have room in our Naturalists in Training (NIT) program for any 6th/7th graders interested in developing their outdoor skills! Check out our website to learn more.
We are so happy to have our campers at the nature center for a summer of exploration and adventure. Check back in every week this summer for another look at nature and FRNC!
We’re already looking ahead to next summer! Mark your calendars: registration for Summer Camp 2023 starts on January 27. We welcome campers from pre-kindergarten through 10th grade, and we can’t wait to see everyone in 2023!
