Updated July 06, 2010

The Friends of Rye Nature Center is in agreement with the recommendations set forth by the Rye Police Department in regard to the recent coyote attacks.  Proper precautionary measures and responsive behaviors should be reviewed with all family members and caregivers. A few suggestions include:

      ·     Using noise, light and aggressive behavior to scare the animals which are naturally timid.

      ·     Remove all potential food sources by securing garbage and compost, not feeding pets outdoors and keeping bird feeding areas clean.

We are in full support of the actions taken by the police to date and are confident that their team of experts is making every effort to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.  In the meantime, we have reviewed our own current safety procedures and will continue to be vigilant in keeping visitor safety as our highest priority.
